Service Solutions Manager, S&C Electric Company

Project:  Battery recycling project for SDG&E’s Borrego Springs microgrid project

Background:  S&C needed to dispose several end-of-life Kokam NMC battery modules which had been deployed at San Diego Gas & Electric’s Borrego Springs microgrid project.

Renewance’s approach:  Renewance offered a turnkey battery recycling project management solution. Renewance arranged adequate transport packaging and labelling for the batteries, prepared required hazardous goods transport paperwork, contracted a licensed logistics company for universal waste transport and contracted a reputable recycler. S&C could track project progress through the Renewance Manager portal and access and store the relevant documentation in order to remain compliant with record retention requirements.

Outcome for S&C:  S&C had no burden on its resources for coordinating the multitude of vendors involved with the decommissioning, packaging, logistics and recycling by outsourcing this to Renewance. S&C could monitor progress through Renewance Manager portal. All relevant documents subject to record retention requirements are stored and accessible to S&C in the same portal.

As an owner, Renewance helped our team better understand the liabilities and opportunities associated with decommissioning our energy storage systems at end of life. Renewance’s battery lifecycle expertise and deep market insights provided our team with confidence in our projections.
